2012 Praise Appeal Letter from Bishop Pryse
Dear Partners,
Grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
I am writing to encourage you to support the 2012 ELCIC Praise Appeal. Bishop Johnson recently sent you a communiqué about this appeal and I wanted to make it very clear to you that I am in full and complete support of the request that you designate a 2012 Sunday of your choice to highlight and make this special appeal
The theme for the 2012 ELCIC Praise Appeal is Ambassadors for Christ: In Mission for Others, based on the reading in 2 Corinthians 5, “we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us” (2 Cor 5:20).
As Bishop Johnson tells us, “We are Ambassadors for Christ as we answer the Call to Spiritual Renewal. We are Ambassadors for Christ as we are involved in mission with our Companion Synods and partner churches. We are Ambassadors for Christ as we work towards a right relationship with Indigenous peoples. We are Ambassadors for Christ as we respond as a part of the Lutheran World Federation to train leaders, strengthen churches, and respond to human need around the world. Your financial support of the National Church through the ELCIC Praise Appeal helps us to accomplish all these things.”
For the past three years, our synod has increased its annual benevolence offerings to the ELCIC by 1% of our total income, with a goal of eventually reaching 25%. We have a ways to go but are moving up steadily at a time when other synods have made drastic cuts that are having a profoundly negative impact on our church’s ability to do the work we have asked it to do.
Resources to assist you in your 2012 ELCIC Praise Appeal Sunday are available on the ELCIC website (elcic.ca/praiseappeal).
Please do whatever you can to support our National Bishop in this very worthy effort!
Yours in Christ,
Bishop Michael Pryse
