Eastern Synod Specialized Ministries Committee

Who We Are and What We Do

The Specialized Ministries Committee (also known as SMC) is the standing committee of the Eastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) that provides support for Outdoor Ministry on the territory of the Synod. Among its responsibilities is exercising oversight of the operation of the Synod's three camps:

• Edgewood Camp and Conference Centre, Eden Mills, Ontario
• Camp Lutherlyn, Golden Lake, Ontario
• Camp Mush-a-Mush, Middle Cornwall, Nova Scotia

All three camps are members of LOMIC (Lutheran Outdoor Ministries in Canada).

Our Mission Statement

The mission of Eastern Synod Outdoor Ministry is: To serve God by nurturing and supporting the development of Christian faith in an outdoor setting.

Summer Employment Opportunities at Our Camps

Each year the three Synod Camps look for summer staff applicants who:

• have initiative, enthusiasm and a sense of humour;
• are searching for an opportunity to experience leadership within a Christian community;
• are open to new learning opportunities and are committed to completing assigned responsibilities;
• have outdoor skills, will enjoy working with children in a co-ed setting, will be comfortable sharing their faith, and will be a positive role model for staff and campers.
