Bishop Pryse, along with the rest of us here at synod office, recently had a chance to re-connect with Sherry Coman, creator and curator of the daily devotionals we experience through Lutherans Connect.
Sherry was Lutheran Campus Ministry Toronto Co-ordinator from2008-2012 when the devotionals project came to be. She once told us that the devotional projects grew out of prayer vigil projects on the U of T, St. George campus. “It was a very rich time for me, and I benefited spiritually immeasurably form my exposure to other faith communities.”
According to Sherry “When the devotionals launched, we as a ministry began to understand the need that might be out there. We’ve never looked back. The projects have continued every Lent and Advent since.”
The pilot project for the devotionals was in Lent of 2011. Although the experiment was successful, it wasn’t really a strong use of digital media. That December, the first Advent project was launched using a blogger template and was set up as an actual calendar. Instead of posting all the content in advance it was posted daily and it was clear that this built up a following.
